We are currently seeking an entry to mid-level Civil CAD Drafter to join our Paris office. The ideal candidate will have experience in drafting, be detail oriented in their work, and possess good organizational skills.

The Civil CAD Drafter will be responsible for producing quality plans for a variety of land development projects, as well as implementing and managing AutoCAD drafting and plan preparation standards. This individual will work directly with Project Managers and Civil Engineers to ensure timely project completion within allocated budgets.

Compensation:

$15 – $25 per hour

Responsibilities:

  • Computer-aided design and drafting of site layout, drainage, roadway, grading, and utility systems using software programs such as AutoCAD and Civil3D
  • Organize drawings under the supervision of professional engineers
  • Perform routine drawing assignments requiring the application of standard techniques and procedures
  • Work within allocated quality/budget/schedule expectations to complete scope-specific assignments
  • Perform administrative duties associated with project management for civil/site projects
  • Meet project schedule requirements and deadlines

Qualifications:

  • Associate or technical school degree in design or drafting
  • 1+ year(s) of drafting experience
  • Proficient in AutoCAD
  • Proficient Microsoft Office skills (Word, Excel, Outlook)
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • The ability to collaborate and be a team player
  • Detail oriented, self-starter
  • Desire to grow professionally

Preferred:

  • 5+ years of relevant experience
  • Experience with land development projects
  • Experience working with state and local agencies
  • Previous internship experience with a related industry is strongly preferred

Billing Specialist

Billing Specialist

L.I. Smith & Associates (LIS) is seeking a detail-oriented Billing Specialist to join our team. This full-time position is available at our Paris office.

The Billing Specialist position will involve multiple billing related duties, including building and billing invoices, record keeping, and data processing.

This position requires an individual with excellent organizational and interpersonal skills. In this role, you will communicate regularly with clients and project managers throughout the duration of each project.

Compensation:

$15-$25

Responsibilities:

  • Build and send invoices
  • Assume the responsibility of receiving and sorting incoming payments
  • Interact with clients and respond to requests concerning invoice billing/payment
  • Manage the status of accounts, balances, and job rates and identify any inconsistencies
  • Update accounts receivable database with new accounts or missed payments
  • Ensure all clients remain informed of their outstanding debts and deadlines
  • Write thorough reports on billing activity with clear and reliable data
  • Ensure all account activity is documented in the appropriate system and shared with project managers
  • Keep updated on all billing requirements and changes
  • Prepare administrative reports as directed. May perform special projects, develop additional materials as assigned, or prepare surveys to go out

Requirements:

  • Associate degree or higher preferred
  • 5+ years of experience in billing/accounting
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook)
  • Must be able to work independently and in a team setting
  • Willing to learn new billing procedures and adapt to these procedures
  • Excellent Interpersonal skills and time management
  • Strong organizational skills

Professional Land Surveyor (RLS)

Professional Land Surveyor (RLS)

L.I. Smith & Associates, Inc. (LIS) is seeking a motivated, experienced Professional Land Surveyor to join our Nashville office.

The Professional Land Surveyor will work closely with crew chiefs and their teams on a wide variety of projects. This position requires proficiency with the use of Carlson Survey software. Responsibilities include preparing accurate drawings, maps, charts, and other survey deliverables on schedule with minimal supervision.

The ideal candidate will have a basic understanding of related civil engineering work.

Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate, direct, and assist in leading team members in the completion of Boundary and Topographical Surveys, Route Surveys, ALTA/NSPS Land Title Surveys, Utility Surveys, and Constructional layout for public and private entities
  • Draft, design, and layout surveys in Carlson Survey software
  • Read and interpret deeds, plats, plans, and specifications
  • Perform record research including legal records, survey records, and land titles
  • Review and approve all survey field data and drawings to ensure they meet the state-specific minimum technical standards
  • Assist Survey Manager in developing and growing client base
  • Meet project schedule requirements and deadlines
  • Coordinate with clients and workforce to resolve project challenges and conflicts

Requirements:

  • License: Tennessee Professional Land Surveyor (RLS)
  • Working knowledge of Carlson Survey software applications
  • Skilled in the use of surveying instruments and software including Trimble Robotic and GNSS equipment
  • 2- 3 years of experience as LSIT
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license and have a good driving record
  • Critical thinking skills with strong attention to detail, the ability to prioritize and plan ahead
  • Must be physically able to work outdoors in all terrain and weather conditions/lift a minimum of 50 lbs.

Preferred:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field
  • 8-10 years of professional surveying experience

We are currently seeking a highly motivated, detail-oriented Survey CAD Technician to join our Paris and Nashville office.

The Survey CAD Technician will work directly with Professional Engineers, Professional Surveyors, and field personnel to ensure timely project completion within allocated budgets. The ideal candidate should be familiar with AutoCAD and possess the skills to read and plot deeds, conduct basic courthouse research, reduce field data, and transmit data to survey crews.

Compensation:

$18.00 – $28.00 per hour

Responsibilities:

  • Perform courthouse and utility research
  • Read and interpret field notes and data files
  • Assist with preparation of boundary surveys, ALTA/NSPS surveys, topographic surveys, easement exhibits, subdivision plats, and other survey deliverables
  • Perform technical drafting and provide support for specific projects
  • Work directly with Survey Project Managers and Field Survey Crews

  • High School Diploma

Civil Engineering Intern

L.I. Smith & Associates (LIS) is currently accepting applications for a Civil Engineering Intern interested in gaining professional, hands-on experience while working directly with our team of Engineers.

The internship is available for Summer 2023 at our Paris and Nashville locations.

Job Description:

As a Civil Engineering Intern, you will assist with various engineering projects in a variety of disciplines, including but not limited to land development projects with major tasks such as stormwater management, environmental permitting, and utility design. You will gain experience in Civil3D, AutoCAD, Trimble Business Center, and Microsoft Office applications. Interns will also perform general clerical duties as assigned.

Compensation:

$15 per hour and/or school internship credit.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist in preparing, editing, and labeling project designs in Civil3D and/or AutoCAD
  • Create or modify project plans and specifications
  • Perform standard computations and analysis and research assignments
  • Support preparation of final design plans, cost estimates, and special provisions
  • Develop technical skills through challenging project assignments
  • Assist with maintaining records, preparing reports, and other functions as required

Requirements:

  • Currently enrolled in a Civil Engineering program at an accredited college or university
  • Preferred GPA of at least 3.0
  • Completed 1+ year(s) of Civil Engineering courses
  • Proficiency in Microsoft office (Word, Excel, and Outlook)
  • Civil3D and AutoCAD drafting experience is a plus
