L.I. Smith & Associates (LIS) is seeking an ambitious and detail-oriented Business Operations Intern to join our team. The part-time internship is available at our Paris office for Summer 2024. 

The intern will assist the Controller and support staff with the management of various functions of the accounting department, including basic accounting procedures and principles ranging from accounts payable and receivable systems to financial statement, preparation, and analysis. 

In this position, you will gain insight into the accounting profession and build a solid foundation for your career through hands-on experience and mentorship.  

Compensation: 

$15 per hour and/or school internship credit. 

Responsibilities: 

  • Run reports using applicable accounting systems to provide data and analysis 
  • Work closely with the controller, IT, and project administrators to resolve any issues that may arise in a timely manner 
  • Assist with month-end closing for accounts payable and accounts receivable processes 
  • Assist with client invoicing, client proposals, & client contracts 
  • Create and maintain complex excel spreadsheets and reporting 
  • Participate in team building and training initiatives 
  • Perform additional administrative tasks as assigned 

Requirements: 

  • Currently pursuing a bachelor’s degree in business management, accounting, or finance 
  • GPA of 3.0 or above 
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel & Word) 
  • Excellent organizational skills and ability to manage multiple, concurrent projects in a deadline-driven environment, keen attention to detail 
  • Creative self-starter who is comfortable with both taking initiative and working in collaboration 
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

Civil CAD Drafter

We are currently seeking an entry to mid-level Civil CAD Designer to join our Paris office. The ideal candidate will have experience in drafting, be detail oriented in their work, possess good organizational skills. 

The Civil CAD Drafter will be responsible for producing quality plans for a variety of land development projects, as well as implementing and managing AutoCAD drafting and plan preparation standards. This individual will work directly with Project Managers and Civil Engineers to ensure timely project completion within allocated budgets. 

Compensation:

$15 – $25 per hour

Responsibilities:

  • Computer-aided design and drafting of site layout, drainage, roadway, grading, and utility systems using software programs such as AutoCAD and Civil3D 
  • Organize drawings under the the supervision of professional engineers
  • Perform routine drawing assignments requiring application of standard techniques and procedures 
  • Work within allocated quality/budget/schedule expectations to complete scope-specific assignments 
  • Perform administrative duties associated with project management for civil/site projects.

Qualifications:

  • Associate or technical school degree in design or drafting
  • 1+ year(s) of drafting experience
  • Proficient in AutoCAD Civl 3D
  • Proficient Microsoft Office skills (Word, Excel, Outlook)

Preferred:

Business Administration Intern (High School)

L.I. Smith & Associates (LIS) is searching for a creative, detailed oriented Business Administration Intern. The ideal candidate is professional in communication and appearance, a team player, and eager to learn the marketing and business fields. This position is available for high school juniors and seniors for the duration of one semester. There is potential for the internship to be lengthened depending on performance. The internship is available at our Paris office.  

This internship provides the opportunity for a high school student to gain hands-on experience in administrative and marketing functions within a professional environment. As the Intern, you will work closely with the administrative team and provide essential support to ensure organizational success. You will be responsible for developing marketing materials, data entry, filing, research, and general administration duties. 

Compensation:

$12 per hour 

Responsibilities:

  • Assist with staff relations efforts, including but not limited to writing email copy and developing graphics for industry holidays and company events 
  • Take ownership of assigned tasks and projects, demonstrating a proactive and detail-oriented approach  
  • Create marketing materials such as videos, press releases, and print collateral  
  • Conduct market research, creating a baseline for future marketing initiatives and strategies 
  • Assist with the organization of company documents and files within departments 
  • Compile and build presentation materials to support projects, showcase new initiatives, report data findings, and other related information. 
  • Whenever required, assist and help the staff members with specialized projects 
  • Perform additional administrative tasks as assigned 

Requirements:

  • High school junior or senior
  • Cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or higher

Civil Engineer

Civil Engineer

L.I. Smith & Associates, Inc. (LIS) is seeking an entry level Civil Engineer to join our Paris office. 

The Civil Engineer will work closely with a Professional Engineer to plan and design a variety of land development projects with major tasks such as stormwater management, environmental permitting, and utility design. Projects and tasks will involve the use of various software programs including Civil3D, AutoCAD, Trimble Business Center, and Microsoft Office applications.   

 An ideal candidate will have excellent communication skills and will thrive in a team-focused environment.  

Responsibilities:

  • Computer-aided design and drafting of site layout, drainage, roadway, grading, and utility systems using software programs such as AutoCAD and Civil3D  
  • Perform independent design tasks and organize drawings while receiving supervision  
  • Review designs, write reports, and complete calculations to assists in producing final designs  
  • Meet project schedule requirements and deadlines  
  • Perform site visits and prepare associated field reports  
  • Coordinate with clients, subcontractors, and workforce to resolve project challenges and conflicts  

 

Qualifications:

Professional Land Surveyor (RLS)

Professional Land Surveyor (RLS)

L.I. Smith & Associates, Inc. (LIS) is seeking a motivated, experienced Professional Land Surveyor to join our Paris or Nashville office.

The Professional Land Surveyor will work closely with crew chiefs and their teams on a wide variety of projects. This position requires proficiency with the use of Carlson Survey software. Responsibilities include preparing accurate drawings, maps, charts, and other survey deliverables on schedule with minimal supervision.

The ideal candidate will have a basic understanding of related civil engineering work.

Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate, direct, and assist in leading team members in the completion of Boundary and Topographical Surveys, Route Surveys, ALTA/NSPS Land Title Surveys, Utility Surveys, and Constructional layout for public and private entities
  • Draft, design, and layout surveys in Carlson Survey software
  • Read and interpret deeds, plats, plans, and specifications
  • Perform record research including legal records, survey records, and land titles
  • Review and approve all survey field data and drawings to ensure they meet the state-specific minimum technical standards
  • Assist Survey Manager in developing and growing client base
  • Meet project schedule requirements and deadlines
  • Coordinate with clients and workforce to resolve project challenges and conflicts

Requirements:

  • License: Tennessee Professional Land Surveyor (RLS)
  • Working knowledge of Carlson Survey software applications
  • Skilled in the use of surveying instruments and software including Trimble Robotic and GNSS equipment
  • 2- 3 years of experience as LSIT
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license and have a good driving record
  • Critical thinking skills with strong attention to detail, the ability to prioritize and plan ahead
  • Must be physically able to work outdoors in all terrain and weather conditions/lift a minimum of 50 lbs.

Preferred:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field
  • 8-10 years of professional surveying experience
